Calling all puppy and dog owners! AKC Evaluator, dog trainer, and certified pet therapist, Lisa Freeman, of Owosso, will be offering her spring group puppy and dog training classes beginning the first week in April.
“Owners and pups(dogs) in our basic class will learn everything from the basics, come and sit to more advanced commands such as down, stay, leave it, and how to walk on a leash without pulling as well as heeling,” Freeman says. “We also offer advanced training and help dogs to overcome anxiety and aggression.”
A dog behavior specialist, Freeman has been called the “Dog Whisperer” of Michigan, as she’s traveled all over the state to train and rehabilitate pups and dogs that would otherwise have to be rehomed or euthanized. “Puppies and dogs, especially rescues, go through stages and traumas just like children and adults can,” Freeman says. “We teach owners how to work through those traumas and help their dogs to be less stressed, socially stable, and become more obedient.”
Freeman deals with puppy and dog behaviors on a daily basis. “We offer behavior management training for PTSD, separation anxiety, barking, jumping, leash pulling and biting,” she says. “But these behaviors are more efficiently dealt with during, one on one, private training sessions.”
Puppies and Dogs can also earn certificates and degrees. “We offer the AKC Star Puppy, Canine Good Citizen Award and Title, Community Canine Title, and the Public Access Test for Service dogs,” Freeman says. “But every puppy and dog will get a participation certificate just for attending our class.”
Classes will begin Sunday, April 1st and run consecutively for six weeks on Sunday and Thursday evenings. Classes will be held at 725 Lincoln Ave, Owosso, MI between 6-8 p.m. depending on which class you enroll in. Cost is only $100 per dog/handler. There’s a limit of 10 pups/dogs and handlers per class and advanced registration and payment are required.
For more information call Lisa @ (989) 729-2124, or to register simply log onto www.dogspawsforhealing.com (click on spring group class link), or contact Lisa via email lisafree@charter.net, Pups/dogs must be up to date on shots and have license. Private training sessions are also available and are required for all aggressive dogs.
